DURING THE MOVE

FORM & ALIGNMENT

  • Use this time to educate the clients and talk about

  • Form: Speak to major form corrections & muscle drivers (what, why, where)

    • Do _________so you can feel __________

    • What should clients engage to enhance?

    • Where should clients feel this move? / Where should their bodies be to maximize?

    • Why are they doing this? (core strength, to protect the back, more range of motion in the shoulders, etc..)

  • Method: Why do we move slowly

DIRECT LANGUAGE & EXAMPLES

Make action-oriented comments:

DO _________SO YOU CAN _________ (examples)

  1. Squeeze your inner thighs so you can feel your pelvic floor

  2. Exhale your air so you can contract your abdomen

  3. Lift your chest and gaze in a lunge so you can target your core and glutes

  4. Put your forearms in an “11” position so you have more range of motion in your shoulders

  5. Push your shins into the carriage so you can support your low back

  6. Squeeze your heels inward so you can activate your glutes

  7. Turn your elbows in towards your ribcage so you can feel your core and relax your neck muscles

  8. Push your knees out slightly as you squat so you can feel the outer glutes

**At the end of the day we are teaching clients how to maximize their time AND grow with their body! “So you can” statements help them connect the action with the desired results. This goes so much further than “you should feel this in your glutes” =P

CLIENT ATTENTION

  • Compliment clients when they make meaningful corrections at least 2-3 times per class

  • Make a correction and then look and acknowledge that win!

    • (YES JUST LIKE THAT STEPH!)

  • If you forgot their name and they are rocking it, go off mic to quickly ask and then congratulate them on mic.

  • Give a direction, stop and watch, then congratulate!

  • Check in on how things feel (questions break up being talked at for 50 minutes)

    • “Do you have enough tension? If not add _(advancement)__”

    • “Do you feel ________muscle?”

HANDS ON CORRECTIONS

  • Give a HOC at least once per section to advance, fine tune, or modify. When you have a big room you may not be able to get to every client per section, so make sure you help them on at least one side then help the rest of the room on the other side

    • Core

    • Obliques

    • Arms

    • Legs

  • Remember, hold clients in a HOC for at least one full rep. You can speak to what you are doing with one client on the mic so everyone in the room can continue to benefit

  • If client still isn’t understanding, then go off mic and ask them to exhale and move with your HOC on the exhale

SPRING LOAD

  • Correct load call out

  • Offer mods and advancements both verbally and off mic

    • “Go heavy for this section because it’s short”

    • “If you feel this in your low back, add a second_______spring”

  • If you have to get poles, weights, straps, or make bar changes in class, make a note to start changing or setting things up at least one move prior to needing them

    • When possible, make machine adjustments prior to class
