It’s Cool If Wellness Isn’t You’re Entire Personality
This past weekend my girlfriend told me she had to take her Oura ring off. All of the information about a “perfect sleep score” was making her so stressed about her sleep that she wasn’t waking up rested. And honestly…I get it. In the last few years it seems like wellness culture has become the ultimate hobby and for many…a part-time job in and of itself. We are inundated daily with the need for peptides, sauna, collagen, ice baths, walking pads, vibration plates, Oura rings, etc….You name it we’re being sold the idea that all of these things give us longevity. And suddenly it feels like if you’re not optimizing every corner of your life, you’re behind.
But here’s the thing. We are so focused on the twenty different ways to optimize our [insert wellness trend here] when most of us have not yet mastered the basics.
WE’RE OPTIMIZING BEFORE WE’VE BUILT THE FOUNDATION
Before we talk about peptides, recovery protocols, hormone optimization, or whatever wellness trend is dominating your social media feed this week, can we talk about consistency in fitness? Because despite all the information, technology, and wellness products available today, we're still struggling with the basics.
In 2024, the CDC reported that just 47.2% of U.S. adults met the federal guidelines for aerobic physical activity. Less than half. So before we start worrying about optimizing our bodies, let's make sure we're actually giving them something to optimize.
Are we raising our heart rate regularly?
Are we strength training consistently?
Are we building enough muscle to support healthy aging, healthy joints, and a healthy metabolism?
Because a lot of the time, the foundation isn't even there yet.
And you can't optimize what you haven't built.
THE BASICS STILL DO MOST OF THE HEAVY LIFTING
Our capitalist society would love for you to believe that the perfect health plan is just out of reach. But the reality is, the basics will still win every single time.
But it’s still what actually changes your body.
Consistent strength training
Progressive overload
Mobility that supports how you move
Recovery that matches your output
Whole foods, minimizing alcohol, & water intake
7-9 hours of rested sleep
That’s it.
That’s the work.
FITNESS DOESN’T NEED TO BE YOUR ENTIRE LIFE
Now don’t get me wrong, at Core (LP) we believe fitness is a long-play, something you fit into your lifestyle like brushing your teeth. Because we know when done consistently, you get the most health benefits. That said…making fitness part of your lifestyle does not mean it has to be your whole personality.
I remember when the idea of the perfect "morning routine" became popular and instead of waking up naturally, eating breakfast, and getting ready for my day, I opened my eyes panicked that I wouldn't fit in a meditation and face mask routine that I didn't even want to do.
You don’t need to be thinking about it all day. You don’t need to be tracking every variable of your existence. You don’t need to turn your life into a wellness experiment.
But it does need a place in your life.
A consistent one.
A repeatable one.
Quite honestly? A boring one.
Because boring is what works.
THE LONG PLAY
At Core (LP), we don't overcomplicate fitness. We've opted out of adding saunas, peptides, and whatever fitness trend is viral on TikTok this week because we've seen firsthand that the basics work. Years of working with men and women to build strength, lose weight, hit PRs, improve mobility, and feel better in their bodies has taught us that the biggest changes rarely come from the newest trend.
They come from consistency.
We focus on Pilates-inspired strength training that builds strength, improves mobility, and helps you progress in a way that actually fits into real life.
Because before we optimize anything...
We should probably make sure we've mastered consistency first.
