What Should I Wear to Pilates?

Let's start with what everyone is really wondering.

No...

You don't need the matching workout set.

You don't need the trendy socks.

And absolutely nobody is judging your outfit.

We promise.

Wear Something You Can Move In

Pilates-inspired strength training involves planks, lunges, kneeling, standing, lying down, and just about everything in between.

The most comfortable option is fitted athletic clothing that moves with you.

Think:

  • Leggings

  • Bike shorts

  • Athletic joggers

  • Fitted tank tops

  • T-shirts that won't fall over your face

The goal is simple.

You should be thinking about your workout..and yes how to push through those deep core exercises—not adjusting your clothes every five minutes.

Grip Socks Are Required

This one isn't optional.

Grip socks help keep you secure on the reformer while improving safety and sanitation.

If you forget yours, don't worry.

We've got them available at the studio for purchase.

What Not to Wear

Skip:

  • Baggy basketball shorts

  • Jeans (yes...it's happened.)

  • Dresses (also happened.)

  • Socks without grips

  • Jewelry that could get caught on equipment

Comfort always wins.

Don't Stress About Looking Like You Belong

I know walking into a fitness studio for the first time can feel intimidating. → What Your First Pilates class feels like

Trust me.

Everyone remembers their first class and that opening core warmup.

But we promise, nobody is paying attention to your outfit.

They're too busy focusing on their form, goals, and finding the shake!

Additional Gear Options

Just like any sport or fitness activity, you'll eventually discover there are plenty of accessories people love. Think of runners and their shoes, golfers and their clubs, or cyclists and their helmets.

The good news? You don't need any of it to get started.

For your first class, all you really need is comfortable workout clothes, water, and a pair of grip socks.

As you continue your Pilates-inspired strength training journey, you may find a few extras that make your workouts even more comfortable:

Grip Socks(Required)
Grip socks help keep you secure on the machine while improving both safety and sanitation. If you don't have a pair yet, we've got you covered with several styles available for purchase at the studio.

Wrist Wraps(Optional)
If your wrists are sensitive during planks or other weight-bearing exercises, wrist wraps can provide a little extra support. They're a great option for some members, but definitely not a requirement.

Grip or Padded Gloves(Optional)
Some members prefer gloves for a little extra cushioning on the handles or to minimize slipping from sweat, especially when they're first getting started. Others never use them. It's completely a matter of personal preference.

At Core (LP), our coaches will always help you find what works best for your body. Don't feel like you need to show up with all the gear on day one. Come as you are—we'll take care of the rest.
