How Often Should I Do Pilates as a Beginner?
When I first started working out during my senior year at Michigan State, I thought the only way I'd see results was if I worked out every single day.
Then one of my friends convinced me to join an eight-week fitness challenge.
The commitment?
Just two classes a week.
I'll admit...I laughed.
Two workouts? That wasn't going to change anything.
Fast forward eight weeks, and not only had those two workouts become one of my favorite parts of the week, but they completely changed the way I looked at fitness.
Because I learned something I still tell clients today:
You don't need to do more. You need to do what you can actually sustain and then build from there.
So...How Often Should I Do Pilates as a Beginner?
If you're brand new, start with 2 classes each week.
Why?
Because your body needs time to adapt.
Pilates-inspired strength training challenges your muscles in ways that are different from traditional workouts. You're learning movement patterns, improving stability, and asking muscles you've probably never noticed before to do some pretty serious work.
Those muscles need time to recover.
Remember:
You don't build muscle during your workout.
You build it while your body recovers from your workout.
That's why showing up three days in a row isn't necessarily better than showing up consistently every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Why Two to Three Days Works
Starting with two or three classes each week gives your body time to:
Recover between workouts
Learn proper technique
Build strength safely
Stay excited about coming back
More importantly, it helps you build something far more valuable than one great workout.
A routine.
Because nobody gets stronger from one incredible week.
People get stronger from months of showing up.
Reformer Pilates for Beginners Doesn't Have to Be Intimidating
One of the biggest fears we hear is:
"What if everyone else knows what they're doing?"
Here's the truth.
Every person in class had a first class.
Every coach remembers theirs.
The reformer looks intimidating until you understand how it works.
Then it becomes one of the most effective—and honestly, one of the most fun—pieces of equipment you'll ever use.
What Does a Beginner Pilates Workout Plan Look Like?
If you're wondering what a realistic Pilates workout plan looks like, keep it simple.
Week 1–4:
2 classes per week
Daily walks if you enjoy them
Prioritize sleep and hydration
Week 5–8:
Increase to 3 classes if you're recovering well
Continue walking, running, golf, pickleball, or whatever movement you love
From there, your schedule depends on your goals.
Some members stay at two classes forever.
Others come three or four times each week.
The "perfect" schedule is the one that fits your life.
How to Incorporate Pilates Into Your Workout Schedule
The biggest mistake beginners make isn't doing too little.
It's trying to change everything overnight.
Instead of overhauling your life, ask yourself:
"What can I realistically commit to for the next three months?"
Maybe that's:
Monday and Thursday Pilates
Saturday morning class
Walking on the other days
That's enough.
Fitness isn't won in one week.
It's built through hundreds of ordinary workouts that slowly become part of your lifestyle.
More Isn't Always Better
One of the hardest lessons to learn is that working out more doesn't automatically create better results.
Your muscles need recovery.
Your body needs sleep.
Your nutrition needs to support the work you're asking your body to do.
The people who see the best results aren't usually the people who go all-in for two weeks.
They're the people who quietly keep showing up month after month.
Why Core (LP)?
At Core (LP), we don't expect you to be an expert before your first class.
We expect you to be willing to learn.
Our coaches meet you where you are, teach proper technique, and help you build strength one class at a time.
Whether your goal is to build lean muscle, improve your core strength, train for your next race, or simply feel stronger in everyday life, it all starts the same way:
Show up.
Then show up again next week.
Because the best workout routine isn't the hardest one.
It's the one you'll still be doing six months from now.
