How Many Calories Does Reformer Pilates Burn?
Sometimes we get asked,
"How many calories does Reformer Pilates burn?"
And honestly...
I think it's the wrong question.
Not because calories don't matter.
But because calories are only one tiny piece of a much bigger picture.
Calories Burned vs. Results
Most fitness trackers estimate you'll burn somewhere between 250 and 500 calories during a Pilates-inspired strength workout depending on factors like body size, workout intensity, and effort. (P.S. We like to use the functional strength training setting over the Pilates one ;).
But let's put that into perspective.
If calorie burn were the only thing that mattered, marathon runners would all have visible muscle definition.
We know that's not always true.
Why?
Because body composition isn't determined by calories burned alone.
Muscle Changes Everything
When you build lean muscle, you're investing in your body's long-term health.
Strength training supports:
Lean muscle development
Better movement
Improved bone health
Greater confidence
Long-term metabolism
That's why we encourage clients to focus less on what their watch says and more on how consistently they're showing up.
My Own Journey
When I first discovered Pilates-inspired strength training, I wasn't chasing calories.
I was looking for a workout that didn't leave me so sore I couldn't run.
Years later, when life got stressful and my health wasn't where I wanted it to be, I came back to the same formula:
Pilates-inspired strength training.
Running.
Better nutrition.
More sleep.
More water.
That combination helped me lose over 45 pounds.
Not because one workout magically burned more calories.
Because I found habits I could actually sustain even during the crazy seasons.
Why Core (LP)?
Our goal isn't to help you burn the most calories in 50 minutes.
Our goal is to help you build strength, create consistency, and develop habits that support your health for years to come.
Because results aren't measured by one workout.
They're built one workout, one habit at a time.
